jason gregory isaacs
director/producer
Jason Gregory Isaacs is an independent
filmmaker and educator. Coming from a
proud Guyanese heritage and raised in
the UK, Jason currently resides in
Brooklyn, New York.
Preferring the label of storyteller, Jason
has always had a profound passion for
stories that educate and entertain in
equal measure, with an emphasis on
social issues and the African identity.
He comes from a rich performance
background, having spent several years
training at the Royal Court in England.
Jason conceived this project whilst
working as a post-production assistant at
London Weekend Television in the UK.
Capoeira was a natural evolution given
his interest in dance and it was his trip to
Brazil in 2001 that convinced him this was
as story that needed to be told.
In addition to his work on Let the Circle
Be Unbroken, Jason is working on several
long-term collaborative and solo projects
including another film exploring race and
religion, a touring multi-media exhibition
and a sketch-based TV show.
simon wheatley
D.P./producer
Simon Wheatley was born and raised in
Singapore before coming to England for
secondary education. Graduating from
Manchester University in American and
Latin-American studies, a dissertation
examining US Foreign Policy towards Brazil
reflected his concern for social issues.
Resolving to be a documentary
photographer, he lived in Budapest,
intrigued by the society in flux that the Cold
War had created, and it was here that his
passion for the camera initially evolved.
After periods in London, Singapore and
Malaysia he settled in Amsterdam, where
his work 'Liberal Limits' reflects the era at
the beginning of this century when cracks
began to appear in Holland’s façade of
tolerance.
At the same time he began a story about
urban regeneration in London, which has
since evolved into a comprehensive and
intimate study of the city's troubled inner-
city youth. A forthcoming book, ‘Don’t Call
Me Urban!’ offers a deep and timely
analysis of this subject.
In 2008 Simon left the Magnum photo
agency, where he had been for 3 years,
freeing him to concentrate on Chicolimon.
